Open Air Evangelism - We encourage every team that comes to do an open air evangelistic service in their partnership community. It’s all about getting the Good News of the Gospel out to people who are not followers of Christ. The presence of a group of Americans is a natural draw that will bring attention to the event. Non-believing people from the community will want to come see, and listen to what you have to share. During each open air service (typically Sunday evening some strategic place out in the community on a street corner) the US team will want to have 2-3 people share testimonies and one person present the Gospel. Your team, or someone on your team, may choose to share some special music. Another option is to show a film in addition to testimonies and a message. Your team may make a call for people to come forward to accept Christ, or you may choose to have RMI do that, or your local Haitian church pastor do it.

Yard to Yard Evangelism - In the U.S., it is often called door to door evangelism. In Haiti, we call it yard to yard evangelism since most people spend their time outside. If your team would like, RMI will work with your Haitian church to set up these visits ahead of time. You will have a Haitian pastor or deacon with you, as well as a translator. You will visit the homes of people in the community who do not know Christ. We have had great success with people coming to Christ through this strategy. This strategy fits the Haitian cultural context, stretches Americans to be active in sharing their faith, encourages the Haitians to do the same, and seems to bear great fruit for the kingdom.
Cost: None, but it is customary to bring a small gift of encouragement with you in addition to your Good News. Two great options are food and water filters.

Church Planting - Come alongside your Haitian partner church to encourage and help them plant additional churches to reach the unchurched communities in their district. RMI’s Haitian partner churches love evangelism and your partner church is most likely in the process of planting a church or desires to do so. As this is the heart of the Gospel, we highly encourage you to partner in this way. Should you desire to help in this way, click HERE for more info on how to engage in RMI’s church planting process.
RMI highly encourages you to engage with your partner church to help plant new churches. Our 5 phase process will help you begin this process together.
Cost: Initial outreach into these new locations is at minimal cost. The purchase of land, the building of a temporary location, the building of a permanent church building/school/parsonage, and the resourcing of this new church will require more significant funds. As the process moves along, uniquely designed estimates will be provided as necessary.
RMI highly encourages you to engage with your partner church to help plant new churches. Our 5 phase process will help you begin this process together.
- Phase 1 - RMI will help your partnership develop, coordinate, encourage, clarify and implement the vision, goals and strategy. A community engagement plan should be underway to actively reach out to people in the community through evangelism and information sharing. Consider training and help in developing and maintaining vision. Having teams come specifically for evangelism alongside your Haitian brothers and sisters is a great way to help encourage and move the vision forward. Pray.
- Phase 2 - The next step is determining a location and providing training. It is likely that the Haitian church has already identified potential locations and are praying and even taking steps to see it happen. We encourage our teams to visit these locations with the Haitian church leaders, pray over them, strategize with your Haitian church leaders, and help them make progress. Land may need to be purchased. Consider training and help with vision, goals, and strategy. Pray.
- Phase 3 - The next step is to build a temporary meeting location. Initial start up meetings, either weekly or monthly should likely begin. Church benches and a sound system and some instruments would be helpful. Pray.
- Phase 4 - As momentum is building, it is time to start considering the building of a more permanent church building/parsonage/school. Pray.
- Phase 5 - It is time to further resource this new church location. Pray.

Life of Christ Booklets - You can purchase these booklets to hand out in mass quantities. For example, purchase one for every child in your church or even in your whole district. They will be read and re-read throughout your community. Reading material is not easily accessed, so having something new to read is a gift. Each booklet tells the story of Jesus, the Gospel itself, in a child friendly way, all in their own Creole language. Get the Gospel message into the hands of the people in a child friendly booklet.

Church Construction - Help build/repair/expand the church. We will work with you and the Haitian church so both bodies can do their part in bringing this to completion. It is extremely important to have a God honoring place of worship. It is a place to belong to. It is a place to invite others into.
Cost: Estimates will be provided upon request.

- Phase 3: Roof, Floor and Electric
- Phase 4: Windows and Doors

Church Resources - Resource the church with what it needs to reach more people with the Gospel. Tools to reach more people are often out of reach or are not available here in Haiti. Help the Haitian church reach more people by building more seats, providing a generator and mobile sound system to project audio and have lights for inside the church and outside the church services. Provide a motorcycle so that the pastor may fulfill his duties of visiting the church people, providing oversight to the other satellite churches, and to regularly visit Cayes to meet with RMI and the MEBSH leadership for training and administrative purposes. Provide a French biblical library for the pastor and people so they can study and learn. Provide a laptop. Provide a projector and screen for evangelism and worship purposes.

Child Discipleship - Many of our churches have a weekly children's discipleship event. Come along side and encourage this ministry. Awana and Child Evangelism Fellowship may be possible. Please send an email to [email protected] for details.
Adult Discipleship - Take some time to teach/disciple a group of adults. See Reciprocal Discipleship.
Group Gatherings - Meet with the ladies, men, school children, school teachers, deacons, youth, etc. We encourage you to do this regularly. Maybe do a craft. Maybe do refreshments. Maybe a devotional. Maybe a Bible study. Maybe teach on a subject. Maybe provide a small gift to each for encouragement. Maybe do a BBQ or some other event for a certain group. Meet with them to encourage and be encouraged, to teach and to learn, and to share and to listen. Often we find that the ministry of presence speaks louder than words or actions. Sometimes it is helpful to just be with another person. Doing is important, but so is being with them. When the body comes together, we see good things. See this blog post for an example.
Ladies Tea Note: Many of our teams like to do what they call a Ladies Tea. No, you may not drink tea, but you would provide a drink and a refreshment, a devotional, some testimonies, maybe a craft of some kind, and maybe some crazy games. Many ladies on our teams have enjoyed making this time special for the ladies in your Sister Church. This typically lasts about 2 hours.
Men's Gathering: You may want to get together with the men of the church for a time of sharing testimonies from your team and some of the men, a devotional, a refreshment, maybe even some games. This typically lasts about 2 hours.
School Kids Gathering: You may want to gather all the school kids for a time of sharing testimonies, a devotional, and singing. Make it fun! The Haitian kids will do their part with a small program, and then it's your turn.
Deacons: It's always a great idea for your team to get together with the Haitian deacons to share reports on your church, and they can share a report on their church. You can hear of their plans. You can ask questions. You will pray together. It's always a good idea to bless each deacon with a small gift.
Youth Gathering: The "youth" group typically consists of all the people between the ages of 13 and 30 who are single. Gather for a time of sharing testimonies, games, singing, and fun.
Hope for Kidz Note: You may want to meet with the children who you currently sponsor through Hope for Kidz. We recommend you do this, and bring a small gift from the donor for each sponsored child. Maybe a backpack with some small items inside. Maybe a 1 gallon size Ziploc bag filled with some blessings. Each of your team members can sit with a translator along with their sponsored child to say hello, ask questions, and get to know your sponsored child.
Cost: The only costs would typically be for refreshments, or a small gift, etc. If you would like, you may also pay RMI to provide food and paper supplies, but only if requested far enough in advance. Please send an email to [email protected] for details.

Reciprocal Discipleship - Let’s edify one another. We want to facilitate partnerships that change lives and reconcile souls that will undoubtedly transform churches, marriages, families, communities, institutions... no matter your zip code. Consider spending time teaching Biblical principles, and considering strategically listening and learning as well. We have so much to teach. We have so much to learn.. Let's learn together... in partnership.
Why not set aside some time while you are here with your team to bring together the church people, maybe specifically the various leaders of the church, and do some teaching. This can be a special gathering, and/or you can do this in our normal gatherings... youth, kids, men, women, deacons, etc.
Consider the following...
The Haitian Christians have many strengths to share with us: respect for one another, respect for God, honor, joyous worship, fervent prayer, having a prayer life, patience, perseverance and endurance, sacrifice, the importance of relationships, the authority of scripture, evangelism, deep faith in the Lord's provision, care, protection, hope in Christ and heaven, joy in the midst of difficult circumstances and so much more.
Cost: Most likely free, unless you want to offer a meal to those who are gathered.

- What does the Bible say about marriage?
- What does the Bible say about purity?
- How can we use our bodies to honor the Lord?
- What does the Bible say about pre-marital and extra-marital sex?
- What does it mean to be "Christlike"?
- What is truth and why is it important?
- What is grace?
- What is Love?
- What is the role of men in the church and family?
- What does the Bible say about the exploitation of women?
- What does it mean to "not conform the the pattern of this world"?
- What are the Fruits of the Spirit?

Bibles and Song Books - You can purchase Creole and French Bibles and the standard Chant d’Esperance Songbook for those in your Haitian church who have none. As you purchase these books, we encourage 25% Creole Bibles, 25% French Bibles, and 50% Chant d’Esperance Songbooks. 2 Timothy 3:16,17 says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” So, let’s get these words into the hands of those who do not have it. This is a great gift, especially for the youth.

Hope for Kidz - Although Haitians place a high value on education, few can afford to send their children to school. In Haiti’s overall development, education remains a key obstacle to economic and social advancement. Sponsor a child in school and give them hope and the tools for them to be able to climb out of the cycle of poverty. Visit here for much more information on what it provides for the child.

Water Filters - What if that glass of water in your hand held contaminated water? For most Haitians, this is the situation they find themselves in every day. It is a basic element of life yet more than 4 million have no access to clean water and have to use contaminated water for all of their needs: drinking, cooking, cleaning, bathing, and laundry.
RMI's Water for Health Program provides simple water filters that can transform the health and quality of life of the recipients. Through the education we provide upon delivery of the filter, we teach people how to take simple, pro-active steps in their everyday lives that will help stop the spread of sickness and disease. Your donation will provide a filter to a family in need. RMI will train them on the use and care of the filter and educate them on how to prevent diseases. For more information go to the Water for Health page here.

Farm Tools - Farming is the main trade in Haiti, yet the people very often have very little tools to use in their gardens and farms. You can purchase shovels, picks, and machetes, or a kit that includes all 3. These would be great gifts for the men of your church, the homes you visit, the deacons, the pastor, etc.

Animal Distribution (Goats, Mules, Chickens, Plow Team) - A tangible way to come alongside and assist a needy family for the sake of the Gospel is to give them an animal that will help them in their daily lives. Many choose to give goats. Goats are the "savings account" for the average family and a staple of the Haitian economy. A goat can provide a family with sustainable means to be able to provide for better nutrition as well as to meet needs such as medical care, school tuition, and many other essentials.
How Goats for Haiti works:
A female goat is given to a recipient. When it has its first little, the first "kid" is given back to the pastor or an RMI staff member. That kid will then be given to another family. The mother goat and the rest of the litters will belong to the family. This process is continued with each first litter of a donated goat. Each recipient undergoes training on the care of the goat from one of RMI's 6 staff agronomist. It really is a gift that keeps giving.
