Gifts that Keep on Giving!

Giving goats are a significant way that we can come alongside and assist needy families for the sake of the Gospel. With more than six university trained agronomists on staff, we are well positioned to give guidance and aid in these areas.

Why Goats?

Goats provide a hope for a better future.
  • Goats are like savings accounts in Haiti.  A goat can provide a family with sustainable means to be able to provide for better nutrition as well as to meet needs such as medical care, food, clothing and other needs of the family.
  • It can enable the family to start a small business as a herd is developed.
  • Having more goats available helps the nutrition and economy of the community.
  • In Haiti, goat is one of the most affordable meats in their weekly diet.
  • They are more economical to buy and care for than a cow or pig.
  • Keeping a goat involves less risk due to loss from natural disasters, illness or death than a bigger animal.
  • It is easier to find food for them; they are less picky eaters.
  • Goats are hardy and can maintain themselves very well in arid conditions whereas larger animals aren’t able to do this.
  • They are so easy to care for that it is typically the children in the family who are responsible for the goats - even small children can control them.
  • Having goats is beneficial for the land since the droppings are good fertilizer.
  • In addition to these factors, goat meat is easily accepted by all levels of society, from the elite down to the poorest of the poor.
  • It is also accepted by all religions in Haiti.  Everyone eats goat!

How it Works

You sponsor a female goat.  In Haiti, this goat is given to a recipient.  When it has its first litter, the first female kid is given back to RMI to perpetuate the program.  That kid will then be given to another family.  The mother goat and the rest of the litters will belong to the family.

It is a process that is continued with each first litter of a donated goat. Each recipient undergoes training on the care of the goat from the RMI staff agronomist.

RMI provides vaccinations and wellness checks for the first year of the goat's life.

It really is a gift that keeps on giving.

Who Receives the Goats?

  • A donor can specify “any needy family” (to be chosen by RMI Haiti staff).
  • If the donor supports a child in RMI’s child sponsorship program, Hope for Kidz, the goat can be given to that particular child’s family.
  • A donor can specify "any needy family" in a specific C3 Partner church (the recipient will be chosen by the leadership of that church).

"A goat is like a checking account that just keeps on giving.  The sale of a goat can provide for school tuition and supplies, medical care, food, or any other family needs.  A goat provides my family with a little business so we can care for ourselves."

“We were hopeless and didn’t know what to do to bring hope and happiness to my kids.  For sure, I know God always has a plan for us.  However, I didn’t expect that RMI would visit me that day.  They brought a female goat to my son, Amos.  It brought my family hope and joy.  Hope:  Right now, if I have a problem I know we have something to sell to have money.  I have no need to worry.  Joy:  My kids take time to feed the goat and take care of it.  They play with the goat and always want to be with the goat as soon as they come home from school.  The female goat has now become a mommy goat with two beautiful female goats.  Yes, for sure we have reason to be grateful to God first, then to RMI and those that gave the goat.
