Ministries
RMI’s main ministry (C3 Partnerships) of partnering churches together has “birthed” many other ministries and programs. These ministries come along-side those partnerships to put “flesh” on some of the 5 areas of impact we want to see through these partnerships. Since Evangelism, Discipleship, Social Compassion, Education (children and adult), and Community Development are essential aspects of engaging in a holistic way with the Haitian churches and communities, RMI has developed a number of programs and ministries that stand on their own and help develop these impact points.
Agriculture is one way that provides a way for Haitian families to be self sustaining. A Farm Kit containing a shovel, pickax and machete will set a farmer up to maintain his fields and crops. A team of oxen, including a yoke and a plow, will enable a farmer to plow and plant larger fields and will benefit the whole community.
Ezra Institute, under the auspices of RMI and MEBSH, the Ezra Institute is aimed at high school graduates, those whose church leadership have identified as having leadership potential. This 2-year program emphasizes having a Biblical life foundation, discipleship and the ability to share their faith, having a Biblical worldview, Biblical ethics, leadership, as well as vocational training such as English, computer usage, accounting and many other subjects. This school is located in Cayes, Haiti.
Food for Health addresses malnutrition and food needs in several ways as it is one of the constant issues of extreme poverty. It is hard for us to imagine how so many kids and families live with constant hunger as a part of their normal life. One box provides 216 meals. This will feed a family of six a nutritious meal every day for over a month. Churches and individuals sponsor these boxes of food which are distributed through local churches in the area of need.
Goats 4 Haiti is another effective way to provide a sustainable income and meat source for a Haitian family. Typically cared for by the children in the family, goats are like a savings account for a family. Starting out with a female goat, they are able to develop a small herd. Then, as a financial need arises, they can sell a goat. The program is self sustaining as well because each recipient is required to give their goat's first female offspring back to the church which in turn gives it to another family where the process repeats itself. It's truly the gift that keeps on giving.
Hope for Kidz is a child sponsorship program founded by Reciprocal Ministries International (RMI) in 1999 to meet the educational and physical needs of Haitian children unable to attend school due to their severe poverty. RMI partners with schools that are part of the Evangelical Baptist Mission of Southern Haiti (MEBSH). MEBSH schools typically cover grades K-9. Children are chosen for sponsorship based on financial need.
Homes For Haiti grew out of the tremendous need for transitional housing after the January, 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Since that time churches and individuals have been able to sponsor the cost of building 200 to 400 square foot transitional homes for families in desperate need whether due to the earthquake or to many other circumstances.
Water For Health was developed to help provide pure drinking water for families and communities. This is a great need as the government is not able to provide water systems for most areas in Haiti. Most water is obtained via springs or rivers with most of this water being contaminated with diseases, etc. So having pure drinking water via one of our family water filters for a household or a well drilled for a community is one of the great health needs for most Haitians. Churches and individuals are able to sponsor these systems to help provide this basic necessity.
There are many other possible projects and businesses through which a church or individual can engage with the Haitian churches and communities. RMI will be glad to discuss these with you.
